Scott Berg started training in the early '80s at the Turk Street dojo. He has since trained at a number of other dojos in the San Francisco Bay Area and has trained extensively throughout the Bay Area and the world. For the last 13 years, he has been a student of Jimmy Friedman's at Suginami Akikkai in San Francisco and teaches there two morning classes a week. His love of the art has not dissipated in the many years that he has trained. Scott trains under Kato Hiroshi, of Suginami Aikido of Japan, an affiliate of Hombu Dojo.
Scott holds a rank of san-dan (3rd degree black belt) through Hombu Dojo, and feels that the club atmosphere is a great environment for students to learn the art of Aikido. He believes that there needs to be a balance between the formality of martial arts and the joy of training. He emphasizes camaraderie and friendship with the physical challenge of technique.
For the past 20 years, Scott has been a Financial Advisor. He has brought Aikido into his financial practice. He believes that the most effective way of dealing with people is through seeing their perspective and that Aikido should be practiced in non-violent situations.
